This film is just as funny and entertaining today as it was when it was produced in 2003. The bonus features add a lot to this edition.

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey make a cute couple in this story about a magazine writer whose assignment is to do everything she can to get a man to dump her within ten days. This would normally be an easy task, but when the man has a bet that he can make a woman fall in love with him in ten days, things get very comical.

Ben (McConaughey) is an advertising executive who desperately wants a big diamond account. His co-workers also want the account. So they bet that if he can get and keep a woman, he will get the coveted account. He must also make her fall in love with him.

So the game is set. Andie (Hudson) is intent on doing everything to repel him, but he keeps hanging on and coming back for more. After all, his career is at stake. He must make himself not only take everything she dishes out, but make her think he is fine with it.

The Battle of the Sexes

While Ben is sticking it out with Andie playing the needy, clingy, bossy girlfriend, she is pulling her hair out wondering how much more this guy can take. All the while, Ben is thinking about the big diamond account. Even when he thinks he has had enough, his friends talk him into “couples counseling” to buy more time. Ten days is a short period of time, relatively, however for these two people it is almost endless.

Bonus Features on the Blu-ray Edition

Bonus features on the Blu-ray include an interesting alternate opening scene which reflects Hudson’s character’s desire to write hard-core stories rather than the fluff she is always assigned. Other additional features include a look at the making of this film from the inception of the original book idea through all the steps of buying the rights to the book, writing the screenplay, casting, and wardrobe shopping. There is a feature on the battle of the sexes and how males and females are different. There is another feature with the two women who wrote the original book which was meant to be a fun book compiling the bad things that women do in the course of dating. Deleted scenes and a music video make up the rest of the bonus features on this Blu-ray edition.

The cast and crew had a great time during the filming of this movie and it shows on screen. The chemistry between Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey is electric. It’s a fun film with adorable characters, plus one very cute dog.
