This DVD includes deleted scenes and lots of short features about the physical comedy in Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

This Happy Madison Production (co-producer Adam Sandler) stars Kevin James of The King of Queens fame as an out-of-shape and socially awkward mall security guard who becomes a reluctant hero when thugs take over his New Jersey mall. (The film was actually shot all over Massachusetts, USA). Rated PG, this “zero to hero” comedy provides a mildly entertaining 91-minute diversion, with only a few big laughs or surprises.

Paul Blart, A Reluctant Hero

With no track record for heroism (or being the John McClane/John Rambo wild card), Paul Blart heads his Segue for the exit door to make a clean escape from the takeover until he realizes that the woman he’s attempting to court (Jayma Mays of Glee) has been taken hostage inside the mall. The situation becomes even more critical when his teenaged daughter comes to his workplace to bring him a sandwich and gets added to the growing list of hostages.

Blart provides the eyes and ears on the inside. However, a SWAT team led by a former high school bully (Bobby Cannavale of The Merry Gentleman) and a group of local police officers led by a sergeant with no tolerance for novices (Adam Ferrara) keep watch outside the mall ready to take control at a moment’s notice. The unusual group of bad guys is comprised of professional skateboarders, BMX riders, free runners, and gymnasts including Mike Vallely, Mike Escamilla, Jason Ellis, Jason Packham, Rick Thorne, Victor T. Lopez, and Natascha Hopkins. Their leader is a greedy computer geek (Keir O’Donnell of Wedding Crashers).

Kevin James, co-wrote the screenplay with Nick Backay, and also helped produce the film. In addition to James (who has worked with Sandler on several projects including I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and You Don’t Mess With the Zohan), Sandler movie regulars, including Allen Covert and Shirley Knight (both of Grandma’s Boy), and Jackie Sandler (Bedtime Stories) put in brief appearances.
